Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
Today, we welcome our new Deacon David Phan at 9:30 mass and a reception to follow. May the Lord bless you with wisdom and joy as you begin your deaconate ministry here at our parish. May is also the month of Mary. The Holy Church invites her children to honor the Blessed Virgin in a very special way. Through Mary’s special intercession, may the world be more peaceful. Family will be more united and loving. Next weekend, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. I hope that you will pray for your mother in a special way. Please help our parish to achieve PSA 2024 goal and beyond. May the Lord, through the intercession of Our Lady of Lavang grant you peace, love, and joy!
Today’s Scripture passages declare the profound truth that those who believe in Christ also obey his commandment of love – “Love others as I have loved you.” In the first reading, Peter teaches us that God shows no partiality in His love and that there are no boundaries to abiding in love. God loves everyone, both the Jews and the Gentiles, and He wants everyone to be saved through His son, Jesus. That is why God welcomed the Roman centurion Cornelius as the first non-Jew to become a Christian. The reading tells us how God also allowed the Gentiles, who heard Peter’s speech, to receive the same Holy Spirit and His gifts that Peter’s Jewish audience had received on the day of Pentecost. Today's Responsorial Psalm directs our attention toward God's marvelous love and kindness in offering salvation to the whole world. In the second reading, John defines God as love and explains that He expressed His love for mankind by sending His son to die for us humans “as expiation for our sins.” This Divine love gives us the command as well as duty to love one another as we have been loved by God. Since God has loved us first, we can and should love God in return, love ourselves, and love one another. After telling the parable of the vine and branches, Jesus, in today’s Gospel, explains precisely how the disciples should obey his commandment of love, just as he had obeyed his Heavenly Father’s will by fulfilling His commandments and remaining inseparably bonded with his Father. Jesus’ unconditional, forgiving, selfless, sacrificial love for us must be the criterion of our love for others. The highest expression of this love is our willingness to lay down our lives as Jesus did, for people whom we feel don’t deserve it. The goal and result of our abiding in love, in God, will be perfect joy. Jesus calls us friends. He tells us that he has chosen us, and that, if we use his name, we can ask the Father for anything.
The message for us this week is that we need to cultivate an abiding and loving friendship with Jesus and to express it in our relationships with others by loving them and showing them trust, faithfulness, equality, forgiveness, joy, and sacrifice. We need to be persons for others: Jesus demonstrated the love of God, his Father, for us by living for us and dying for us. Hence, as his disciples, we are to be persons for others, sacrificing our time, talents, and lives for others. This way of life is precisely how parents live, in what parents spontaneously do, sacrificing themselves, their time, talents, health and wealth for their children, or in other words, by spending themselves for their children. The most effective way of communicating God’s love to others is by treating everyone as a friend, giving him or her respect he or she deserves through Jesus Christ.

Quý Ông Bà Anh Chị Em thân mến!
Hôm nay cộng đoàn chúng ta chào Mứng Thầy Sáu Phan Đức Tạo tới phục vụ giáo xứ St Columban, chúng ta sẽ có buổi tiệc chào mừng thầy sau thánh lễ 3:15 hôm nay. Kính chúc Thầy Cô tràn đầy ân sủng Chúa trong vai trò mới tại St Columban Tháng 5 cùng là tháng hoa. Giáo Hội muốn con cái dùng dịp này để dâng lên Đức Mẹ những đóa hoa cuộc đời qua việc dùng tháng này để lần chuỗi mân côi tôn sùng trái tim mẹ. Chúng ta cũng cầu cho thế giới bớt đi những chiến tranh loạn lạc, gia đình được bình an và bớt đi những xung đột. Trong tháng này chúng ta cũng mừng ngày hiền mẫu vào tuần tới để tri ân các người mẹ đã hy sinh vì gia đình và đàn con. Xin quí ông bà tiếp tục đóng góp cho quĩ mục vụ giáo Phận 2024. Nguyện xin Chúa Kito qua lời chuyển cầu của Đức Me La Vang ban muôn ơn lành trên toàn thể quý vị!
Chủ đề trong Thánh Lễ Chúa Nhật thứ 6 Phục Sinh hôm nay cho chúng ta (những người tin vào Chúa Kitô) biết là hãy giữ giới luật yêu thương “Hãy yêu mến nhau như chính Thầy đã yêu mến các con”. Trong bài thứ nhất Thánh Phêrô dạy cho chúng ta rằng Thiên Chúa không đối xử cách thiên vị cho tình yêu của Ngài, có nghĩa là tình yêu Chúa thì không có biên giới. Thiên Chúa yêu thương mọi người, Do Thái và Dân Ngoại, và Ngài muốn mọi người được cứu chuộc qua Con của Ngài là Chúa Giêsu. Ðó là lý do tại sao Thiên Chúa đã đón nhận Ông Cornêliô người của Rôma, người không phải là Do Thái đầu tiên được trở nên Kitô hữu. Bài đọc cho chúng ta thấy rằng Thiên Chúa đã cho phép Dân Ngoại khi nghe bài giảng của Thánh Phêrô cũng nhận những ân sủng của Chúa Thánh Thần trong ngày Lễ Ngũ Tuần. Bài đọc thứ hai, Thánh Gioan cắt nghĩa rằng Thiên Chúa vì yêu thương nên đã ban Con của Ngài để chết cho nhân loại như là “tha thứ tội lỗi cho chúng ta”. Tình yêu của Thiên Chúa cho chúng ta giới răn của Ngài và cũng là trách nhiệm để chúng ta yêu thương nhau bởi Thiên Chúa đã yêu thương chúng ta trước. Chúng ta hãy yêu thương nhau như Chúa đã yêu thương chúng ta. Bài Phúc Âm hôm nay Chúa Giêsu đã cắt nghĩa rõ ràng như các môn đệ giữ giới răn tình yêu của Chúa, như Chúa Giêsu đã vâng phục Thiên Chúa Cha và đã chu toàn theo ý Chúa Cha và cùng sống mật thiết với Ngài. Chúa Giêsu là Ðấng tình yêu vô điều kiện, tha thứ và hy sinh tình yêu để yêu mọi người. Một cách diễn tả tình yêu này cách cao vời là hy sinh mạng sống cho con người dù người không xứng đáng. Chúa Giêsu gọi chúng ta là những bạn hữu của Ngài. Vì Chúa đã chọn chúng ta, và Thiên Chúa sẽ cho chúng ta những gì chúng ta cầu xin.
Tuần này chúng ta được mời gọi để sống mật thiết với Chúa Giêsu và sự liên hệ với tha nhân bằng cách hãy yêu thương họ và chỉ cho họ thấy sự tin tưởng, trung thành, tha thứ niềm vui và hy sinh. Chúng ta hãy trở nên con người của Chúa Giêsu cho tha nhân bằng cách đối xử với mọi người như là người bạn cho họ sự kính trọng và tình yêu của Chúa Kitô Ðấng đã sống và chết cho tình yêu.

¡Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo!
Hoy, damos la bienvenida a nuestro nuevo Diácono David Phan en la misa de las 9:30 y habrá una recepción después. Que el Señor te bendiga con sabiduría y alegría al comenzar tu ministerio diaconal aquí en nuestra parroquia. Mayo también es el mes de María. La Santa Iglesia invita a sus hijos a honrar a la Santísima Virgen de una manera muy especial. A través de la intercesión especial de María, que el mundo sea más pacífico. Que las familias estén más unidas y amorosas. El próximo fin de semana, celebraremos el Día de la Madre. Espero que reces por tu madre de una manera especial. Por favor, ayúdanos a alcanzar y superar la meta de la Campaña Anual del Obispo (PSA) 2024 en nuestra parroquia. ¡Que el Señor, a través de la intercesión de Nuestra Señora de Lavang, te conceda paz, amor y alegría!
Los pasajes de las Escrituras de hoy declaran la profunda verdad de que aquellos que creen en Cristo también obedecen su mandamiento de amor: "Ama a los demás como yo te he amado". En la primera lectura, Pedro nos enseña que Dios no muestra parcialidad en Su amor y que no hay límites para permanecer en el amor. Dios ama a todos, tanto a los judíos como a los gentiles, y quiere que todos sean salvos por medio de su hijo, Jesús. Es por eso que Dios dio la bienvenida al centurión romano Cornelio como el primer no judío en convertirse al cristianismo. La lectura nos dice cómo Dios también permitió que los gentiles, que escucharon el discurso de Pedro, recibieran el mismo Espíritu Santo y sus dones que la audiencia judía de Pedro había recibido en el día de Pentecostés. El Salmo responsorial de hoy dirige nuestra atención hacia el maravilloso amor y la bondad de Dios al ofrecer la salvación a todo el mundo. En la segunda lectura, Juan define a Dios como amor y explica que expresó su amor por la humanidad al enviar a su hijo a morir por nosotros los humanos "como expiación por nuestros pecados". Este amor divino nos da la orden y el deber de amar a uno otro como hemos sido amados por Dios. Como Dios nos amó primero, podemos y debemos amar a Dios a cambio, amarnos a nosotros mismos y amarnos los unos a los otros. Después de contar la parábola de la vid y las ramas, Jesús, en el Evangelio de hoy, explica precisamente cómo los discípulos deben obedecer su mandamiento de amor, así como obedeció la voluntad de su Padre Celestial al cumplir Sus mandamientos y permanecer inseparablemente unido a su Padre. El amor incondicional, indulgente, desinteresado y sacrificado de Jesús por nosotros debe ser el criterio de nuestro amor por los demás. La expresión más alta de este amor es nuestra voluntad de dar nuestras vidas como lo hizo Jesús, aun por personas que creemos que no lo merecen. La meta y el resultado de permanecer en amor, en Dios, será la alegría perfecta. Jesús nos llama amigos. Él nos dice que nos ha elegido, y que, si usamos su nombre, podemos pedirle algo al Padre.
El mensaje para nosotros esta semana es que debemos cultivar una amistad duradera y amorosa con Jesús y expresarla en nuestras relaciones con los demás, amándolas y mostrándoles confianza, fidelidad, igualdad, perdón, alegría y sacrificio. Necesitamos ser personas para los demás: Jesús demostró el amor de Dios, su Padre, por nosotros viviendo para nosotros y muriendo por nosotros. Por lo tanto, como sus discípulos, debemos ser personas para los demás, sacrificando nuestro tiempo, talentos y vidas por los demás. Esta forma de vida es, precisamente, cómo viven los padres, en lo que los padres hacen espontáneamente, sacrificándose a sí mismos, su tiempo, talentos, salud y riqueza para sus hijos, o en otras palabras, dedicándose a sí mismos a sus hijos. La forma más efectiva de comunicar el amor de Dios a los demás es tratar a todos como amigos, dándole el respeto que merece por medio de Jesucristo.
